UNO. Some Simple Points

UNO
Playing UNO this time was just like the last time I played UNO.  Playing card after card, everyone playing nicely at first as they put down there numbered cards. No one was being evil with the use of their special cards. However, everyone knew we all had the ability to screw over the person next to them. Everyone knew they had to in order to win the game.

Peace didn’t stay for long however, when all of a sudden Shane plays a +2 card, everyone smirks and whispers, the victim gives a spiteful grin as they reach over to pick up 2 more cards.   I always think you should be able to retaliate right away if you get victimized by a +2 pickup.  I mean, why continue the chain and harm the guy next to you? He didn’t do anything to you.  Alas, you do it anyway.  It’s the way of the game, and I like it!

So the six of us played UNO, which I think was a bit too many players to play this game, but it worked just fine as far as the material cards and not running out of them.  The completion time I suppose is the only issue with having 6 players, and that is, we didn’t finish in the half hour we had to play!

Now for the rules:

The objective is to have no cards in your hand first by placing them in a pile, and taking turn to place one card down at a time. The card you place must be either the same colour of the pile, or the same number/type. When you have 1 card in your hand you have to verbally yell “Uno” or someone can call you out and you pick up 2 cards. There are also special effect cards that will be explained below.

Now for the cards.

108 total cards:
19 Blue Cards - 0 x1 and 1 to 9 x2
19 Green Cards - 0 x1 and 1 to 9 x2
19 Red Cards - 0 x1 and 1 to 9 x2
19 Yellow Cards - 0 x1 and 1 to 9 x2

- These cards are regular, run of the mill, no harm no foul cards.

8 Draw Two cards - 2 each in Blue, Green, Red and Yellow

- These cards force the person next in line to pick up 2 cards, and skip their turn.

8 Reverse Cards - 2 each in Blue, Green, Red and Yellow

- These cards reverse the order of the turn

8 Skip Cards - 2 each in Blue, Green, Red and Yellow

- These cards skip the next person in line, as the name of the card suggests

4 Wild Cards

- These cards allow the user to change the colour of pile

4 Wild Draw +4 cards
- these cards are devils.  They; make the person in next turn order pick up 4 cards, skip their turn, and allows the user of the card to change the colour of the pile

Pretty simple, I think.

As a game it's pretty fun.  I played it all the time with my family and we generally always have fun.  You can really only play one game a session.  More than one would take too much time and would end up getting frustrating due to people continuously screwing others up with more cards.

A thing i'd change would be certain card mechanics, such as the +2 pick up card also skipping the turn of the player it's used on.  I mean, theres a skip card for skipping, the +2 pick up card should be for +2 pick up! Besides that, i wouldnt change a dam thing about the classic UNO.
